New Scholarship Program Helps MacMurray Students Finish School
Some students at MacMurray College will be finishing their degrees, thanks to a pilot program aimed at helping financially strapped students in their senior year.
The program is called Cross the Finish Line, and runs through the Illinois Institute of Independent Colleges and Universities, with funding from AT&T.
This year, seven MacMurray students received up to $3,000 for tuition so they can finish their degrees.
The idea of the pilot program is to assist students who need only one year of study or less to complete their degrees, but cannot finish primarily because of financial burdens.
"It saved me a lot of hours working this summer," MacMurray student Kyle Marshall said. "I'd have to work to pay this, but now I don't have to. I mean, I'm still working, but it's extra money. It helps me and keeps going here and one more semester after this, and them I'm graduating and going into the real world."
MacMurray College is one of two colleges selected to pilot the scholarship program. The other is Loyola in Chicago.
