Time to Prepare Your Furnace for Winter Weather
With cooler weather moving in, even the most frugal homeowner might find it hard not to fire up the furnace. But there are some things you should do before turning up the heat.
Experts recommend getting furnaces cleaned and making sure everything is operating up to standards. They say by doing so, it'll make the unit run more efficiently.
One local heating and air service provider said most problems are due to a lack of maintenance.
"The main thing the homeowner can do is keep the filter clean," Andrew Gerber, a service tech at Lanz Heating & Cooling, said. "When the filter gets plugged, it causes the filter to overheat, and it leads to other issues."
Gerber also stresses the importance of having a carbon monoxide detector in every home to keep residents safe. Carbon monoxide is something you can't see, smell or taste, and if not detected, it's deadly.
