Car Hits Power Pole, Knocks Down Lines
UPDATED August 26, 6:12 p.m.
A woman is recovering from minor injuries after being trapped in her car for several hours after she hit a power pole.
The accident happened this morning around 9:15 at Old Decatur Road near Petal Road east of Riverton.
Several power lines came down over the car when she hit the pole, which is why she was stuck in her car for so long.
CWLP was called to help assist in removing the woman from the car.
The 25-year-old woman was taken to St. John's Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Crews are still working to remove the car from the scene.
They say the crash sent more than 100,000 volts of electricity into the ground. But, no customers lost electricity.
The Sangamon County Sheriff's Office believes a medical-related issue led to the crash.
