Millikin Student Found Unresponsive in Dorm
Millikin students are dealing with a tough start to the semester. Sunday morning, 19-year-old student Amanda Puckett was found unresponsive in her dorm room.
Friends say Puckett spent most of her time at Millikin University in the Perkinson Music Center.
They say that she was a genuine friend who truly cared about music.
"It's a really sad thing to see happen," junior Brenna Pheifer said.
The sophomore was studying music at the university. Students say she was always seen with her instrument's carrying case in hand.
"She was a very active participant in the school of music, very talented for even being a freshman last year," Pheifer said. "She made waves in the school of music."
Millikin University's interim president, Patrick E. White, released this statement:
"The university extends its deepest sympathy to Amanda's family, friends and the entire Millikin community in this time of loss. We are devastated by this news. Millikin University is a close knit family, and this impacts us all."
"It's definitely different coming back the first day of school, having that to deal with," senior Kevin Clore said.
As classes began Monday, those attending couldn't help but think about their fellow Big Blue student.
"It's sad," Clore said. "You wish the best for their family and friends. Just hope people can get through it."
"I think that will be a push that they find within themselves to pursue their degree passionately, just knowing that she can't do the same," Pheifer said.
The Macon County Coroner's Office is reporting no overt signs of violence in this incident.
Millikin students held a vigil Sunday night to honor Puckett. Friends told us her family was there.
