Steidl Gets Settlement for Wrongful Conviction
A man wrongfully convicted of murder will receive a $3.5 million settlement.
Randy Steidl and Herb Whitlock were convicted of killing Dyke and Karen Rhoads in 1986. Steidl spent 17 years in prison, including 12 years on death row. He was released in 2004. Whitlock was released in 2008.
Both filed suit against the city of Paris, two police officers, and Edgar County. Whitlock settled his case earlier for an undisclosed amount.
This $3.5 settlement ends the lawsuits filed by the men over their wrongful convictions.
