DIRT Team Makes Marijuana Bust
Sangamon County's special drug crimes unit has made its first big bust after re-forming the group earlier this year.
The Drug Interdiction Response Team, or DIRT Team, served a search warrant at 301 S. Livingston St. this morning.
The team found 400 grams of suspected cannabis, more than $800 in cash, and drug paraphernalia.
Two residents of the home were arrested: 25-year-old Braxton Buchanan and 46-year-old Michelle Buchanan, who will be charged with manufacture and delivery of cannabis.
"Not a huge operation, but this is why the DIRT team is back, is because this is a neighborhood nuisance," Sangamon County Undersheriff Jack Campbell said. "We will take down houses like this. In addition, we will come across some large drug dealers along the way. But right now, we're satisfied with this, and we're very happy."
The Sangamon County DIRT Team was originally disbanded back in 2009 due to countywide budget cuts. Campbell said the team was re-established after an increase in local crime that he believes was caused by drug activity.
