Action in District 186: Board Votes on Budget Cuts
The first vote didn’t come until about 9:30 Monday night, but the District 186 School Board did it. They moved on the budget recommendations of Dr. Milton.
Cuts to post-secondary coaches in area high schools, elementary school librarians, and cuts to IMSA were voted down.
Cuts to teaching positions at Franklin, Jefferson, Grant, Lincoln, and Washington Middle Schools were also voted down.
Dr. Milton suggested more than $6 million in cuts. The items voted down by the board took around $966,000 of that off the table.
Consolidating Wanless and Pleasant Hill Elementary Schools, a projected cost savings of more than $226,500, was not voted down despite the pleas of the Grandview Village President.
At around 10:30 the board moved on recommendations of the Community Budget Review Committee, voting to close the Capital College Preparatory Academy at an estimated savings of $1.7 million.
