Roadwork Funds Hung Up in Legislature
Businesses and trade groups said Illinois lawmakers must act quickly on allocating $675 million if they want to see road graders moving this spring.
A revamped Federal Transportation Program means $175 million more for Illinois. State resources are available because past projects cost less than expected. Even though the money won't affect taxpayers, the legislation got hung up in the state Senate last month because of expenditure concerns.
Supporters said it needs approval soon because spring roadwork will soon be underway.
The legislature returns Tuesday.
