IDOT Issues Winter Driving Recommendations
IDOT is gearing up for harsher weather to come. IDOT officials and Illinois State Police held a press conference earlier today to launch their new "Ice and Snow - Take it Slow" campaign. IDOT said they're ready for the snow and ice, with more than 1,700 pieces of equipment and 246,000 tons of salt. But they want you to be ready as well.
"Before you head out into bad weather, ask yourself, 'Is this trip really necessary?'" IDOT acting operations engineer Bill Burger said. "If necessary, be sure to check the forecast and current road conditions before heading out, and plan appropriately."
IDOT recommends carrying a vehicle emergency kit. Keep your gas tank at least two-thirds full, and always carry a charged cell phone.
If you find yourself stranded on the road, you can dial *999 for roadway assistance.
