Macon County Speedway Hosts "Feed the Children"
Cars are normally speeding around the track at the Macon County Speedway, but today, the track's owners asked drivers to stop.
As part of Feed the Children, 400 boxes of food and personal care items were given out to local families in need.
Two of the owners, NASCAR drivers Kenny Wallace and Kenny Schrader, helped distribute the boxes.
While the Kennys are used to high speeds, they didn't have a problem with the drive-thru setup.
"We're excited to be able to pay it forward this time of the year," Wallace said. "It's harvest season for the farmers, and the farmers are bringing in their corn and soybeans. Feed the Children is year-round, but it's getting colder. It's going to be down in the 30s and 40s tonight. Everybody needs a little food. We just love paying it forward."
More than 600,000 Illinois children live in poverty. To put that in context, that could fill Memorial Stadium in Champaign more than nine times.
Feed the Children is also a national effort. Visit their website to learn more about the program.
