IHSA: Swimmers with Disabilities May Compete
Illinois swimmers with disabilities--like 16-year-old Mary Kate Callahan of LaGrange--will be able to compete this year.
This decision comes after an agreement was reached with IHSA, the organization that oversees high school sports in Illinois.
Swimmers with disabilities will be allowed to compete in the 50, 100, and 200-yard freestyle events and the 100-yard backstroke.
The Illinois Attorney General's Office said they will continue to pursue legal action on this matter, but this agreement is a good first step.
