ROCK HALL INDUCTS GENESIS

NEW YORK (AP) -- Trey Anastasio of Phish says a lot of people have probably walked down the street humming in 13/4 time without knowing it. Anastasio says only Genesis would have "rebelliousness" and "quiet audacity" to do that and make it a hit: "Turn It On Again." Anastasio inducted Genesis in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last night. Phil Collins thanked Anastasio for giving "a really convincing argument" for their induction. Genesis did not play. Collins is recovering from neck injuries and Peter Gabriel did not attend. Phish performed "No Reply At All" and "Watcher of the Skies" on their behalf.

THE HOLLIES SHOW THEIR LONGEVITY

NEW YORK (AP) -- Allan Clarke of The Hollies recalls his dad told him pop groups only last a few years, so he should save his money. Clarke says now he's been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and "how's that for longevity." Graham Nash joked the group had the audacity to have three number-one hits after he left. Little Steven Van Zant inducted them and gave a ten minute speech, but didn't mention The Hollies until seven and a half minutes into it. Adam Levine and Jesse Carmichael of Maroon 5 and Pat Monahan of Train performed with the group.

ABBA DON'T PERFORM AT THEIR ROCK HALL INDUCTION

NEW YORK (AP) -- For ABBA fans hoping for the big reunion at their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, last night was a disappointment. Only Benny Andersson performed, with Faith Hill on vocals. Anni-Frid Lyngstad attended but did not sing, and the other two members did not show. Lyngstad says even though she's a grandmother, she felt like a teenager last night. ABBA were inducted by the Bee Gees, and Robin Gibb says people 200 years from now will still be singing ABBA songs.

IGGY POP BRINGS PUNK ATTITUDE TO STOOGES' ROCK HALL INDUCTION

NEW YORK (AP) -- Iggy Pop's first reaction to being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was to drop an expletive and then flip off the crowd with both hands. When bandmate James Williamson was thanking musicians who had played with the band and did not get inducted, the crowd was going crazy -- because Pop was taking off his shirt behind him. Green Day singer Billie Joe Armstrong inducted The Stooges. He described them as the sound of "blood and guts, sex and drugs, heart and soul, love and hate, poetry and peanut butter." Armstrong also says pop has "the prettiest smile in rock and roll."

JIMMY CLIFF SEES ROCK HALL AS STEP IN THE JOURNEY

NEW YORK (AP) -- Jimmy Cliff says his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a stepping stone on his journey to higher heights. Wyclef Jean inducted him and says the greatest moment of his life was inviting Cliff to spend the night in the tiny apartment Jean shared with his wife and Cliff accepted. Cliff may not have been the best-known inductee in this year's class, but he could put on a performance. He performed three songs and was energetically dancing around stage.

ROCK HALL FINAL JAM IS DIFFERENT THIS YEAR

NEW YORK (AP) -- The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame traditionally ends with all the inductees getting on stage and jamming together. Not this year. The show ended with different artists singing the songs of the songwriters who had been inducted in the non-performing categories. Rob Thomas, Peter Wolf, Ronnie Spector, Fefe Dobson, Chris Isaak and Eric Burdon sang those tributes. The final song had all those artists singing together on "Shake, Rattle and Roll," but none of the inductees performed with them.
