Ashley Glass joins ABC NewsChannel 20 all the way from sunny Florida, and she is excited to call Central Illinois her new home! Ashley is your WICS Weekend Anchor/Reporter.
Most recently, Ashley reported and anchored for WCJB-TV in Gainesville, Florida. Some of her most memorable coverage included the fierce string of hurricanes hitting the Sunshine State in 2004 and 2005, the last-minute execution stay of Florida death row inmate Clarence Hill and flying at almost supersonic speeds in an F-18 jet with the U.S. Navy Blue Angels. Ashley is also proud to have highlighted breast cancer survivors in North Central Florida.
Ashley was also a General Assignment Reporter for WUFT-TV. That’s where she got her feet wet in news-gathering, midday anchoring and even tried her hand as a weather anchor/producer. Ashley hit the radio waves back in 2002 as a reporter for WRUF-AM Classic 89. She also hosted her own television show called “Close-Up” featuring the unique people and places of Gainesville and surrounding areas.
Ashley graduated from the University of Florida with honors and dual degrees in Telecommunication-News and Political Science. While in Gator Country, Ashley was on the U.F. “Dazzler” dance team, was named “Miss University of Florida” and went on to be named a top ten finalist in the Miss Florida pageant.
Ashley is an advocate for breast cancer awareness. She is passionate about volunteering for the American Cancer Society and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Ashley says, “Early detection is vital, and I am committed to spreading that message.”
In her spare time, Ashley enjoys just about anything outdoors or on the water, especially water skiing and beach trips. She is looking forward to spending time with new friends and her many relatives scattered throughout the Midwest.
